Our General Services

  • Body Removals

Death sometimes is unpredictable. As much as we would love our loved ones to only die after living a long and fulfilling life, sometimes death can happen suddenly. In such cases, our loved ones can pass on at home, in other cities, on the road or in any other location that may not have the requisite infrastructure to handle the deceased with dignity and respect. We offer services to assist in properly handling and moving our loved one to the requisite infrastructure to handle the deceased body.

  • Funeral Arrangements

After a loved one passes away, there is a multitude of arrangements to be made. This is also a very emotional time and dealing with the logistics of funeral arrangements is not necessarily how you want to spend this period of mourning. It can be a very difficult task. We support you by taking care of all the practical arrangements to ensure a final farewell with care, compassion and dignity. We offer a high level of dedicated funeral care, advising you of all your options and choices and overseeing that the funeral arrangements are made per your wishes and those of the Deceased.

  • Documentation

When arranging a funeral, a variety of funeral documentation is required. Knowing what funeral documentation is required when arranging a funeral can be challenging. At Funerals, we understand your priority is spending time with your family. To make the documentation process go smoothly, we will manage it on your behalf. Basic Funerals will complete the death registration and all of the cemetery and crematorium paperwork. We will ensure that this process unfolds quickly and easily, allowing you to focus on the funeral arrangement and service.

  • Chapel

As is the norm with most of our beliefs, it is respectful and dignified to hold a service for our loved one before we take them to their final resting place. The service needs to be organized, smart & respectful to amplify the dignity. To facilitate this, we offer a state-of-the-art chapel, that can be decorated to your specific needs and wants for your loved one’s final send-off. We can provide a service leader for you or you can use a service leader of your choice, with the main thrust being to provide dignity and respect for your loved one.

  • Transportation

Losing a loved one is one of the most traumatic events, especially when it happens in a place away from home. Our professional funeral transportation services are for families who need assistance getting their loved one to their final resting place. Our experienced drivers will ensure that your loved one is transported safely and with respect. We also provide transportation services for family members who may need assistance getting to the funeral service or cemetery.

Our Muslim Burial Services

  • Bathing the body

The corpse is washed (ghusl) to physically cleanse the deceased using heated water and acceptable accessories. Bathing the dead body is an essential ritual of the Sunnah of the Islamic prophet Muhammad, and therefore a part of the Islamic sharia. This is done as soon as possible after death, preferably within hours. This is done an odd number of times (at least once) with a cloth covering its awrah (parts of the body that should be hidden according to sharia). The "washers" are adult members of the immediate family, elders in the Muslim community or close friends as directed by the deceased, who are of the same gender as the deceased. We offer state-of-the-art facilities where the selected washers can come and do this important task. We also provide all the accessories required to add dignity and respect to the deceased. However, if the family of the deceased would rather have the bathing done at their local Mosque by the Sheikh or any other designated person, we will transport the body with care to its intended destination and we will assist in any way possible to maintain dignity. In cases of violent deaths or accidents, where the deceased has suffered trauma or mutilation, we will mend the body and wrap it in a shroud to minimize fluid leakage before adhering to the wishes of the deceased family.

  • Shrouding

The corpse will be wrapped in the Kaffan-Sanda. This is done to respect the dignity and privacy of the deceased and the family will be present. The shroud will be simple and modest preferably white cotton cloth. For men, we use only three pieces of cloth and, for women we use five pieces of cloth. We will keep the body in this state for several hours, on a Janaza, to allow well-wishers to pass on their respects and condolences. However, if the bathing and shrouding are done at the Mosque, we can provide the Kaffan-Sanda and Janaza to be used to bring dignity and respect, as the body lies in state at the Mosque, to allow well-wishers to pass on their respects and condolences.

  • Funeral Prayer

The community can gather in our chapel, decorated to the family’s taste to offer their collective prayers for the forgiveness of the dead i.e. the Salat al-Janazah (funeral prayer). However, if the family opts to use their local Mosque instead, we will be available to assist in any way possible to ensure that the process proceeds smoothly and the whole event brings dignity and respect to our final send-off of our loved one.

  • Burial

Following washing, shrouding and prayer, the body is then taken for burial (al-Dafin). The grave will be perpendicular to the direction of the Qibla (i.e. Mecca) so that the body, placed in the grave without a coffin lying on its right side, faces the Qibla. The grave markers will be raised, not more than about 30 centimeters above the ground, so that the grave will neither be walked nor sat on. Grave markers are simple as outwardly lavish displays are discouraged in Islam. Graves will be marked only with a simple wreath. We can assist in the securing of the grave as well as assist the family to erect grave monuments, should the need arise.

Our Normal Burial Services

  • Washing and Dressing

After death, bodies undergo several natural changes. These changes make it necessary for several steps to be taken to make the body presentable in turn bringing some dignity and respect to our loved one. We will make sure that the body of our deceased is properly cleaned. This will allow us to view our loved one in the best possible light and have a good lasting impression in our minds to assist with our fond memories of them. Once it is clean, we will dress them in the clothing of the bereaved family’s choosing thus dignifying the body-viewing process and searing one last image of our loved one in favored clothing in our minds.

  • Embalming

At times, it is necessary to embalm our loved one. This is the process of preserving human remains to slow down the natural decomposition process. While it won’t stop the process, it can help the body appear more life-like, especially if it’s to be shown at a casket viewing. It also allows us to transport the deceased body to its final resting place without the risk of it decomposing. This will also allow us to transport the body safely, do the best for our loved one, and afford the utmost dignity and respect one last time. We expertly offer these services and in turn allow you to go through the funeral with peace of mind.

  • Coffins & Caskets

Mourners are often invited to attend the burial, which may include short readings and prayers, physically being involved in burying our loved one, depending on religious beliefs. We offer state of the are equipment that adds the aura of respect and dignity in the process of burying our loved one.

  • Exhumation Services

Exhumation is the act where a body is removed from a grave and relocated to a new grave. There will not always be a re-burial as the remains may be cremated. We are experienced in exhumations and have done many projects for individuals, government and corporate entities. We will assist with all the necessary paperwork and permissions from respective authorities, and will ensure that the whole process is done efficiently and timely.
